(Active Living in Later Years)
Ally Foyle is a network of older peoples groups aged 50+ in the Derry City area. Active living is all about taking part in activities that are socially, physically and mentally rewarding. It can also be fun and challenging!
Our mission is to promote the concept of Active Living among older people in their later years so that they can enjoy improved quality of life, health and well-being.
ALLY Foyle is about reaching out to older people in the community to encourage their inclusion and engagement towards greater community involvement. It is an independent forum set up to encourage and assist 50+ groups and all older people to promote active living programmes.
Develop and maintain close relationships and partnerships directly with older people, team leaders and local groups. Organise, assist and create networking opportunities in the form of volunteering, meetings, social events, training courses and consultations.
Raise awareness of the positive social, physical and mental benefits of joining 50+ groups. Assist in the development and promotion of programmes, with the long term goal of improving the health and well being of older people.
Provide representation to age agencies and policy makers of the needs and experiences of older people to which address inequalities in the sector.
Interface with Council Departments, Statutory bodies and ensure that older people’s views are considered within decision making processes that affect their lives.
We can assist with tutors and facilitators to member groups of older people for active ageing programmes. These include Tai Chi, Arts & Crafts, Movement to Music, Local History talks, Flower Arranging, etc. If your group is interested in becoming a member of ALLY Foyle or require assistance in sourcing tutors, please contact:
